Castelmola
Castelmola sits at about 530 m on a rock above Taormina and the Ionian Sea, in north-east Sicily, Italy, and takes its name from the shape of the rock, which resembles a millstone, or mola. It is one of the Borghi più belli d’Italia.
The SP10 climbs from Villagonia, just below Taormina’s Porta Catania, and runs beneath Monte Tauro, whose rock was the lower acropolis of Greek and Roman Tauromenion. It ends at Castelmola’s castle, the upper acropolis, which Count Roger’s Normans took in 1078.
