The Hahntennjoch, 1,894 m, links the Lechtal with the upper Inn valley at Imst, in Tyrol, Austria, and this side climbs from the Lechtal near Elmen. In 2017 the Tour Transalp opened with a stage from Sonthofen that crossed the Gaichtpass and was timed at the top of this climb; the pair Frederic Glorieux and Bob Michels won it.
The ride climbs into the Bschlaber Tal on a road built in stages: it reached Bschlabs in 1930; cars could drive there from 1937, and on up to Boden from 1947. Near the top it passes Pfafflar, given up as a year-round village in 1894, when its people moved down to Boden; today it is mostly a summer settlement. Over the pass the ride descends all the way to Imst, on the road that opened only in 1969.
