The Hahntennjoch, 1,894 m, links the upper Inn valley at Imst with the Lechtal at Elmen, in Tyrol, Austria. For centuries a path over the pass tied the Lechtal villages to Imst, but the road on the Imst side was built only from 1950 to 1969, as a shorter way from the upper Lechtal to the Inn valley than the Fernpass. The pass is popular with cyclists, and in 2017 the Tour Transalp came down this side to finish its opening stage in Imst.
The ride starts in Imst and climbs past Teilwiesen into the narrow Salvesen valley, then past the Maldonalm to the pass. Pfafflar, first recorded in 1288, and the other villages over the top were settled from Imst and began as its alpine pastures. Until the mid-17th century their dead had to be carried over the pass for burial in Imst. At the top runs the boundary between Imst and Pfafflar, which since 1938 has also divided two districts.
