This loop north of Boulder, Colorado, USA, follows roads of the IRONMAN Boulder bike course. The race was held six times, from 2014 to 2019. The first, in August 2014, drew about 2,300 athletes, and Justin Daerr, a professional who had lived in Boulder for 13 years, won at home. Since the full-distance race ended, IRONMAN 70.3 Boulder has gone on using these roads.
This ride starts on Jay Road and heads north on US 36, along the foot of the mountains, then turns east into farmland. Nelson Road brings it back west to the foothills and the ride’s high point on US 36, and St Vrain Road leads east again. The loop then turns south past Niwot, named after the Arapaho chief Niwot, and comes back down the Diagonal Highway to Jay Road.
