The Spalona Pass, about 811 m, in the Bystrzyckie Mountains of Lower Silesia, Poland, is a broad saddle that divides the range into a northern and a southern half. The range is heavily forested, mostly with planted spruce, and its network of quiet forest roads is used mainly by walkers, cyclists and foresters. Over the pass runs road 389, part of the Sudetenstraรe, a tourist road along the Sudetes completed in the 1930s.
The ride starts at Stara Bystrzyca and climbs the valley of the Bystrzyca through Nowa Bystrzyca, first recorded in 1414, with its wooden church of 1726. At the top it reaches the crossroads by the Jagodna shelter, built around 1895 as a roadside inn and turned into a mountain shelter once skiers discovered the area. The ride then turns onto road 389 and descends the western slope towards the Czech border.
