The Albula Pass, 2,312 m, crosses from the Upper Engadin to the Albula valley in Graubünden, Switzerland, on the watershed between the Rhine and the Danube. Its road opened in 1865 and carried freight over the pass until 1903, when the Albula railway opened in a tunnel beneath it. The Engadin Radmarathon comes down this side to La Punt on its long route.

This ride starts in La Punt, whose name comes from the Latin for bridge, after its crossing of the Inn. The village grew with the traffic over the pass until the railway opened. From La Punt the road climbs the short, steep side to the hospice at the top, then drops down the other side to Alp Weissenstein, where ETH Zürich runs a research station.
