Cormet de Roselend from Bourg-Saint-Maurice (South side)
The Cormet de Roselend climbs out of Bourg-Saint-Maurice, in Savoie, France, on a road completed only in 1970, when the stretch between Les Chapieux and the pass was built. In 2020 the Cormet was the first climb of the Tour de France stage from Méribel. Marc Hirschi led over the early climbs, and Ineos Grenadiers took first and second at the finish, Michal Kwiatkowski ahead of Richard Carapaz. In 1996 the race came the other way, down this road to Bourg, and Miguel Indurain, winner of the previous five Tours, cracked on the final climb to Les Arcs and lost minutes.
This ride leaves Bourg past Bonneval-les-Bains and climbs the hairpins, then runs along the valley high above Les Chapieux to the Cormet. It drops a short way towards the Roselend lake and ends above the head of the lake. Both sides of the pass are closed from mid-October to mid-May.
