Magnolia Magnolia

Ride Country Magnolia  Strava Segment

Magnolia Road climbs south out of Boulder Canyon, above Boulder, Colorado, USA, to the settlement of Magnolia. The first road up the canyon, in 1868, came this way: it followed Boulder Canyon only as far as Fourmile Canyon and then turned up Magnolia Hill, because the canyon beyond was thought impassable. A road up the whole canyon came only in 1871.

The ride leaves Boulder Canyon Drive and climbs Magnolia Road to Magnolia. It is a road Boulder’s cyclists know well: the University of Colorado’s Buffalo Bicycle Classic, a scholarship ride held since 2003, sends its gravel course up here and warns riders about the steep start. The ride ends in the settlement, where the pavement gives way to the dirt road that the Buffalo riders follow on towards Nederland.
