Peña Cabarga is a thoroughly enjoyable climb. Despite its fairly modest altitude, it offers fantastic views looking out over Santander and the Cantabrian Sea. It is a popular cycling climb due to its proximity to Santander - the regional capital - and it is certainly one of the best cycling routes in the area. Peña Cabarga has hosted numerous stage finishes in the Vuelta a España, always as the final climb of the stage. Notable winners here include Chris Froome and Joaquim Rodríguez - suggesting that despite its short length, it is certainly an ascent for proper climbers.
