The TF-12 climbs from San Andrรฉs, on the north-east coast of Tenerife, Spain, up the south side of the Anaga massif to El Bailadero on its ridge. It is the road from the shore into the Anaga Rural Park, which became a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2015.
San Andrรฉs is a fishing village founded around 1498. Its coastal tower, rebuilt in 1769, helped hold off the British attack on this stretch of coast in July 1797. That attack was part of the battle for Santa Cruz, in which Horatio Nelson lost most of his right arm. From the village the ride climbs the valley to El Bailadero, a hamlet on the ridge. Its name may come from the witches said to have danced round a bonfire here, or from a Guanche ritual to bring rain. The ride ends on the ridge beyond, on the road across the top of the massif.
