The Sella Valcalda, at about 959 m, crosses from the Val Degano to the But valley in Carnia, Friuli, Italy. The name Valcalda properly belongs to the sheltered, grassy head of the valley below the pass. The Giro d’Italia has used this side as a descent: in 2018 and 2024 the race came down it to Comeglians, and in 2018 it went on along the Degano to Ovaro for the climb of the Zoncolan.

From the valley floor the road climbs to Ravascletto, the Valcalda’s ski village, where skiing began in the 1920s. In 1975 the first cable car to the Zoncolan opened here. At the pass the Panoramica delle Vette, the high road along Monte Crostis, begins. The ride ends a short way down the other side, towards Zovello.
