The Sella Valcalda, at about 959 m, links the But valley with the Val Degano in Carnia, Friuli, Italy. The Giro dโ€™Italia has twice used this side as the penultimate climb of a mountain stage. In 2024 it came before the finish at Sappada, where Andrea Vendrame won. In 2018 it led to the Zoncolan, where Chris Froome won the stage and Simon Yates kept the pink jersey.

This ride starts at Priola and passes through Cercivento, where the Valcalda meets the But valley. A Roman road once ran through the village, linking the two valleys. Around Zovello the road steepens to between 8 and 10% for about 2 km, the hardest part of the climb. The ride ends just over the top, above Ravascletto, on the descent both Giro stages took towards Comeglians.
