James Canyon
James Canyon Drive, a well-known side climb off Lefthand Canyon, follows James Creek to Jamestown, a small mountain town north-west of Boulder, Colorado, USA. Jamestown began with lead ore found in 1864, and the camp was called Elysian Park the following year. Gold came in 1875: the Golden Age claim, sold for $1,500, became the district’s best mine. By the First World War the area was mining fluorspar.
The ride starts at the junction with Lefthand Canyon Drive and climbs west along James Creek to Jamestown. Beyond the town it carries on up Overland Road, where the gradient stiffens, and finishes high above Jamestown.
