Serra de Tramuntana to Andratx (Part 1)
The Ma-10 crosses Mallorca’s Serra de Tramuntana, in Spain, from end to end, and every spring it carries a sportive named after a number: the Mallorca 312. The figure is the length, in kilometres, of its longest route. The first edition, in June 2010, drew 199 riders on a lap of the whole island. Since 2016 the course has stayed in the north, crossing the mountains on the Ma-10. Today around 8,000 riders sign up for it each April.
This ride follows the Ma-10 south-west from Sóller to the ridge above Banyalbufar, the direction in which the 312 rides it. It first climbs over the Coll d’en Bleda and drops to Deià, where the poet Robert Graves settled in 1929. His house, Ca n’Alluny, is now a museum. Beyond the village the road passes Son Marroig, one of the coastal estates of Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria. Next comes Miramar, where a school for Franciscan missionaries was founded at Ramon Llull’s request in 1276. The road then skirts Valldemossa, where Frédéric Chopin finished his Preludes in the old Carthusian monastery in the winter of 1838-39. A final climb leads to the ride’s high point at the Coll d’en Claret, before the descent towards Banyalbufar.
