Passo de Haria (North side)
The Passo de Haría, or the climb to the Mirador de Malpaso, scales the northern volcanic spine of Lanzarote, rising from the historic center of Teguise. The route traverses the high-altitude plateau of Los Valles before reaching its apex near Peñas del Chache, the island’s highest point at 671 meters. This geographic barrier forces a dramatic climatic shift; the southern slopes remain arid, while the northern face captures moisture from the trade winds, supporting the dense groves of the "Valley of a Thousand Palms" below.
Historically, the pass was known as Malpaso ("bad step") due to the steep, treacherous terrain that isolated the northern villages. The modern road gains over 400 meters of vertical relief, featuring a technical series of switchbacks along the Famara massif. The climb follows a sustained gradient that offers 360-degree views of the Atlantic and the Chinijo Archipelago.
