The Goms is the highest part of the Rhône valley, in the Valais, Switzerland. The Tour de Suisse has been decided here more than once. In 2005 Aitor González attacked on the Furka on the last day and won the race at Ulrichen, after starting the stage 36 seconds down. In 2019 the race ended with a time trial on the valley floor and a final stage from Ulrichen, which sealed Egan Bernal’s overall win.

This ride starts below Grengiols and climbs the valley past Fiesch to Niederwald, where César Ritz was born in 1850. He went on to found the Ritz hotels in Paris and London, and he is buried in his home village. The road continues through Münster and Ulrichen, where the Nufenen road branches off, to Oberwald. The ride ends on the first hairpins of the Furka, above the village.
