Col de Latrape
Col de Latrape has been featured in the Tour de France twelve times since 1956. It typically functions as a mid-stage technical ascent within the Ariège region, often situated west of the Col d’Agnes and the Port de Lers. Because the pass is located at a lower elevation than the surrounding peaks, it is frequently utilized by organizers to fracture the peloton and establish breakaways before the race reaches higher-altitude finishes in the south.
The pass connects the Ustou Valley to the south with Aulus-les-Bains to the north. Geographically, it sits within the Couserans region, characterized by steep, forested slopes that offer significant wind protection compared to more exposed alpine environments. Historically, these trails were developed for the transport of timber and the movement of livestock between seasonal pastures, forming the foundation of the modern paved route now used for international competition.
