The Coll des Grau (also known as Es Grau) is a mountain pass in the southern Sierra de Tramuntana mountains of Mallorca, connecting the villages of Puigpunyent and Esporles. When approached from the Puigpunyent side, the ascent covers approximately 4.2 km (2.6 miles) with a total elevation gain of roughly 255 meters. This side of the climb features an average gradient of 6.1%, with its steepest sections reaching approximately 8.4%. The route is characterized by its technical layout, which includes roughly 18 tight hairpin turns winding through a dense pine forest. Alternatively, the climb can be approached from the town of Esporles to the east, which provides a longer but shallower ascent of approximately 5.5 km with an average gradient of 3.8%. The road used for both directions is the Ma-1101, which is noted for its high-quality asphalt and significantly lower motor vehicle traffic compared to the island’s more famous climbs. At the summit, the elevation reaches 468 meters above sea level, providing a transition point between the forested interior and the vineyard-covered valleys leading toward the coast.
